I was born in Slovakia in a smaller city under the High Tatras mountains. In the late times of my elementary schools I started experimenting with computers more. Linux grabbed my attention so in the last grade of my school I tried it out and got hooked on it. I wanted to study something IT related in high-school, but I got to the CNC and welding robot programming field, which was interesting, but clearly not for me. After school I worked in Slovakia for couple months and then moved to the Czech Republic.

My interests

I have quite a few interests which mainly involve electronics, radio and computers. As you might have already noticed, I really like Linux and open-source software, I mainly use FOSS software. I really like LoRa mesh communication trough Meshtastic and MeshCore, I own few nodes. I also am a 3D printing and CAD nerd, I own a pretty neat Voron printer .But I also like more causal things like reading, journaling/tracking.

My systems

Enviroment

My operating system of choice is mainly Gentoo Linux, I run it everywhere except at work, I have Debian there instead. I like the customazibility of it and that it is purple :>. I do not use any floating window desktop enviroment, I prefrer tiling window managers. I currently am using the Sway window manager which is for the Wayland video server. I might try something else again like Hyprland or going back to DWM.

As of software, I use Alacritty as my primary terminal emulator and I try to use mostly commandline interface programs such as Neovim, ranger, sxiv, etc.. My default browser is Librewolf, which is just stripped down Firefox modified to be more private, but it is kinda wonky sometimes, so I use the Brave browser for some tasks like web flashing of Meshtastic nodes.

Main computer

I have a custom build computer with Asus mATX motherboard. I went full AMD with this build, which to me is the only true chad option. My CPU is Ryzen 7 5700X which is pretty awesome for me. I have 32GB of DDR4 DIMMs, which is enough for my Gentoo Linux compilation activities, but I might upgrade to 64GB or 128GB. My GPU is Radeon 6650XT with 8GB of VRAM. It is pretty much enough for me, I am not a huge gamer, I play videogames ocassionaly, and even then it is mostly just older titles. For cooling I use a chonker Noctua tower cooler and I have 3 intake fans in the front, for exhaust I have two on the top of the case and one in the back. Seems to work well for me. I have quite a lot of storage, I have 2TB disk for personal files and another 2TB for media like games, movies and pictures. My Gentoo system is on one of the 500GB NVME drives. I think my system would be fine even on 250GB one. One NVME is unused because I don’t know what to put on it lol.

Laptop

For my computation on the go I use a Lenovo ThinkPad T430 which I have Librebooted. This laptop runs Gentoo Linux too, I think it isn’t too old for that. I have 16GB of DDR4 memory installed in it and 250gb solid state drive for the system. I also have opted to use Atheros Wi-Fi card in this laptop.

I really like this ThinkPad, it has features from both worlds. Good performance and it is closer to the classic look, except that I haven’t done the classic keyboard mod yet.

My 3D printer

For 3D printing I have decided to get a Voron V2.4 r2 with 350x350mm build plate. I got it from a Fysetc kit and I must say, what an adventure to build this thing. I took days off work to build it and it took me like 3 days of almost nonstop assembly. I must say that it has taught me a lot more about how good 3D printers are built and how they work. I also love that the 3D printer is entirely open-source, I would never get a stupid BambuLab printer.
